The Complete Book Package from BookPaint
The Complete Package is a misnomer of sorts. Your "Complete Package" consists of the components you want to implement in your marketing plan. This package is an example of what one author selected to market her book and website. This demonstration is a guide to what you might do for your book.
Here's the story of this package:
The book, what elephants know, has
six major characters, each with their own story within the context
of the book's main event. The author wanted to build a following for
each of these characters in anticipation of future books. Her
marketing plan included treating those characters like actors, including providing them with email addresses so their fans
can write to them.
Step 1: Design of the book cover. There are multiple covers for this
book with each of the major characters on the back. Reader can order
a special book jacket with their favorite character.
Sample cover: Bonnie
With the main cover completed, work began on the
website. The site's design is an expansion of the book cover and
encompasses components to build an online community - character
blogs, an online Book Club, an e-commerce area to sell books and
merchandise, sample chapters, and deleted scenes from the book. The
website also has
bookmarks and computer wallpaper that readers can download free.
The book's
internal design links to the website. Pages are marked with a
tiny elephant icon to let the reader know there is more to read at
the site. The deleted scenes are enhanced by an onsite diary of one
of the main characters. This diary's format is also on the
interactive CD
sent to book stores and
reviewers. The CD contains an author interview, her biography, a
PaintClip™ (BookPaint
video for your book), a sample chapter, a media kit, and ordering information. campaign included some contests and premiums to gain
recognition for the book. She gave away calendars and T-shirts. She
also purchased a Book
Signing kit which included business cards, flyers,
posters, and
door hangers.
